Red Dwarf

Red Dwarf, the BBC's worldwide hit sitcom, is my favourite TV Show of all time. Indeedy. Why is hard to say - not as hard as diplomaticianary - but hard, because I don't know. Maybe it's the genius comic talent of the closely-knit cast and plots, or the clever parodies and fun sense of discontinuity. Maybe it's because it's just really funny. Either way, it's still my favourite TV Show.

I'm not going to do any daft 'character profiles' or 'online scripts' because you can get them anywhere. Instead, I'm going to do a 'Did-You-Know?'. Yippee!

  • Chris Barrie (aka Rimmer) originally auditioned for the part of Lister.
  • Holly was at first going to be just a voice-over, until Norman Lovett (Holly I) came up with the idea of a head on a screen.
  • In the episode Thanks for the Memory, some of Lister's parts are played by the producer as Lister had to leave halfway through filming for his son's birth.
  • David Ross, who played Kryten in the very first Kryten episode, was replaced by Robert Llewelyn in Series 3, but reappeared as Talkie Toaster later on.
  • The Drive Room vending machine that the cat got 6 fish dishes from was voiced by Tony Hawks, the comedian.
  • It took more than 15 takes to get the bullets to land correctly on the table in Gunmen of the Apocalypse (Series 6).
  • Kryten's make-up takes over 3 hours to be applied properly.
